About Android 14 Beta 5

Beta 5 is now available to test with your apps. This release is suitable for development, testing, and general use. However, Android 14 is still in active development, so the Android system and apps running on it might not always work as expected.

Beta 5 is the last milestone before the final release, so update your environment and start your final compatibility testing now so you can publish any necessary compatibility updates ahead of the final Android 14 release.

As with previous versions, Android 14 includes behavior changes to help improve performance, battery life, security, and privacy. In some cases, these changes can affect apps until they are updated to support Android 14, so you might see impacts ranging from minor issues to more significant limitations. In general, most apps will work as expected, as will most APIs and features, but please review any known issues listed on this page to get a better idea of what to expect.

How to get Beta 5

You can install this release on any of the following Google Pixel devices:

  • Pixel 4a (5G)
  • Pixel 5 and 5a
  • Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel Tablet
If you're already running an Android 14 Developer Preview or Beta build, you'll automatically receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 14 Beta 4. For other devices, see Get Android 14 for details on how to get started.

Remember to update your SDK and the Android Emulator as well before you try out the latest features and changes. The best way to do this is using the SDK Manager in the latest preview version of Android Studio.

Depending on your development and testing needs, you can also get Android 14 in the following ways:

General advisories

Be aware of these general advisories about the release:

  • This release might have various stability, battery, or performance issues.
  • For users with accessibility needs, this release might not be appropriate for daily use.
  • Some apps might not function as expected when running on this release. This limitation includes Google's apps as well as other apps.
  • Android 14 Beta builds aren't Compatibility Test Suite (CTS)‑approved, but they have passed preliminary testing and provide a stable set of pre-release APIs for developers. Apps that depend on CTS-approved builds or use SafetyNet APIs might not work normally on Android 14 Beta builds.

Get support

Two primary support channels are available to you when developing and testing with Beta. The channel you should use to get support depends on where you are encountering your issue.

  • Support for device-specific issues, system issues, and issues with Google apps: Use the Issue Tracker to create new issues and to view and track issues that you and other developers have submitted.

Before creating your own issue, check the known issues listed on this page and search the lists of top open issues and recently created issues to see if someone else has already reported it. You can subscribe and vote for an issue by clicking star this issue .

See Where to report issues to find an issue template that best matches the type of issue that you are encountering.

  • Support for issues with other apps: Contact the app developer directly.

This minor update to Android 14 Beta 2 includes the following fixes:

  • Fixed an issue that prevented users from completing device setup after opting a device running an Android 14 beta build out of the beta program. However, this fix is not backward compatible, so users that want to opt out of the beta program should take the following steps before opting out:
    1. Update the device to Android 14 Beta 2.1, either through the over-the-air (OTA) update prompt, or by downloading an OTA image and then applying the update manually.
    2. Reset the pin, pattern, or password that's used on the device by navigating to Settings > Security & privacy > Screen lock. You can use the same pin, pattern, or password that was used previously, but you need to go through the setup flow.
    3. Opt out of the beta program by following the instructions listed for the "How can I opt out and return to a public Android release" question in the FAQ section of the Android Beta Program page.
  • Fixed more issues that could cause the battery percentage to display as 0% regardless of the actual charge level of the device. (Issue #281890661)
  • Fixed issues that sometimes caused audio disruptions with the device's speakers. (Issue #282020333, Issue #281926462, Issue #282558809)
  • Fixed system stability issues that could cause apps or the device to freeze or crash. (Issue #281108515)
  • Fixed an issue with always-on-display mode when using a device with Android Auto. (Issue #282184174)
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the Google Photos app to crash when trying to open certain photos.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the Google Contacts app to crash when managing account settings.
  • Fixed an issue where the icon for the Google Messages app did not display for notifications when always-on-display mode was enabled.
